Welcome to our story page. We created this blog to share information about your Alberta food industry.

This is me at Rock Ridge Dairy, Central Alberta

Taste Alberta started as a collection of stories in the Edmonton Journal and Calgary Herald. It was an amazing partnership, and at the time, an efficient and effective way to deliver our stories to you at home. With this blog, we’ve “opened the barn doors” so to speak, and we want to showcase what agriculture is all about.

I’ve spent 20 years working in the agriculture industry. WOW, it doesn’t seem that long ago I was just starting out in Barrhead, Alberta with binders of information about conservation farming practices. That’s right, tons of paper…before google. In the past 20 years, I’ve spent a significant amount of time with farmers, on their farms and at meetings and conferences learning about what they do. I don’t have all the answers, but I’m willing to invest my time to find them. In an industry that is continuously improving, I’ll probably never be the expert, but I will commit to you that the information shared will be accurate.

Best part of this blog will be the stories about real farmers, passionate about producing food. I know that you have some questions, and I encourage you to write me an email or comment below. Did you know that less than 2% of Albertans are farmers? This means very few of us know much about farming, and all questions are relevant. Another interesting fact is about 32% of the land in Alberta is used for agriculture and in 2016 the GDP for the agri-food industry was $6.6 billion. (Reference) I think this makes agriculture a fairly important industry in Alberta.
